The concept is simple: all animals, plants, and other living things have a thermal death point; a temperature at which they cannot survive. “Warm-blooded” animals like humans, dogs, and birds are able to thermoregulate- this means that they can control their body temperature from becoming too hot or too cold. “Cold-blooded” animals like amphibians, fish, and insects are not able to do this, so exposure to very hot or very cold temperature kills them quickly. The temperature for all living organisms is different. For bed bugs, being exposed to temperatures of 122°F is lethal to all life stages in just moments. However, if the temperature were just a little bit lower, say, 118°F (4 degrees cooler) bed bug eggs could survive for 90 minutes!
